Girl on the wing

by The Shins

The Shins my love, an old favourite
" before we take this ride and let it slide
into the cracks where fall and winter collide.
i surrender all my gall in a song of modern love.
remember you're the one who summoned me above any other kind."

The Shins have some of the most beautiful lyrics, cryptic but brilliant.

Lyrically, James Mercer tells a story by painting music with imagery that evoke emotions. Beautiful, deep, suppressed, simple happiness tinged with a little regret, sadness of a distant memory.. There is nothing 2d about his music, whoever you are, whatever your history, it feels like he could've written this song on your life. There are so many ways of deriving meaning from his music.

He crafts the scenery for you to fill in the details. Brilliant is it not? So when i say listening to the Shins is like a journey through the soul, i exaggerate not. You might even discover something about yourself.
